Take a good long look at the panoramic image above of the river Ribble by Avenham Park. If Preston City Council has its way this will all change by 2012. Preston City Council wishes to build a barrage across the river to allow watersports and develop the area on the right (above) into housing, business premises & shops including all the necessary access roads.

This is part of an £800 million project to develop Lancashire's waterways.

These developments will have a devastating effect on the entire Ribble ecosystem, increase dangers of flooding in the area and inevitably lead to increased pollution and traffic congestion.

City planners describe this area as "bleak, barren and undeveloped" which in entrepreneurial terms means it isn't making any £money£.

Please view the images below (Click on them for a larger view) and decide for yourself whether you agree.

These photographs were taken while I have lived in this area for the last six years and enjoyed its changing seasonal sights, sounds and smells.

Finally visit the links at the bottom of this page to learn more about this proposal and how you can help stop it and preserve this area for future generations to enjoy.
